EastBayRI.com reports that a Barrington man stabbed his girlfriend’s dog in the face, chest and leg late Friday night.

Police received a phone call at about 11:42 p.m. on Friday night, Jan. 12, and responded to a Lake Avenue residence. Once there, officers encountered the female resident who said her boyfriend, Bradford Vernon Ellsworth, 49, of 64 Lake Ave., had stabbed her dog. The female resident said she had been sleeping when the incident occurred.

Police then spoke to Mr. Ellsworth, who offered his account of the situation. He said the dog — a four-and-a-half year-old Akita — had gotten into the kitchen trash. Mr. Ellsworth said he yelled at the dog to get out of the trash; he then alleged that the dog turned on him and began growling and snarling.

Police said Mr. Ellsworth then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the dog three times — in the face, chest and leg.

By the time police arrived at the residence, the dog’s owner was crying and very upset. Police said the dog showed no aggression toward them.

If you know some animal lovers, there are a few that will post things on social media where someone has done something horrible to a pet and if you’re like us, you just don’t understand why someone would do something that vicious to an animal.

Mr. Ellsworth had apparently been bit by the dog before, but there’s still a stretch between being attacked by a dog and deciding to grab a kitchen knife and stabbing it repeatedly.

The dog survived after emergency surgery in Swansea.
