Where In Newport To Celebrate RI Quahog Week

By  |  0 Comments

The First Rhode Island Quahog Restaurant Week begins today.

For the Ocean State, the quahog is kind of a big deal. It’s a ubiquitous symbol throughout Rhode Island, providing a mascot for Narragansett Brewing Company, among other companies and organizations.

March 21-27 has been declared Rhode Island Quahog Week by Rhode Island Department Of Environmental Management and the Governor’s Office as they encourage the consumption of our state’s favorite clam. “The goal of Quahog Week is to increase year-round use of this local fishery by highlighting creative, delicious quahog preparations and to feature the many restaurants, fishermen, and food-based businesses committed to growing Rhode Island’s local food economy.”

Restaurants across the state are participating.

Here in Newport, we have four restaurants are getting in the “Quahog Spirit”.

So if you needed an excuse to go out to dinner before full-on Newport Restaurant Week kicks off April 1, why not take an opportunity to celebrate Rhody’s celebrity mollusk?
