The Man Who Beat Tallulah Returns

Chef Tim McGrath is the guest chef at The Revolving Door, scene of his Battle Chefs victory.

The last time Tim McGrath cooked at The Revolving Door Restaurant, it was the finale of the first season of Battle Chefs. McGrath was going head-to-head against one of Rhode Island’s most celebrated chefs, Tallulah-on-Thames’ Jake Rojas. While McGrath was already Executive Chef at the Waterman Grille, he was an unknown and textbook underdog compared to Rojas, who has garnered just a little bit of fame over his career.



McGrath and Rojas had both won two rounds each. Now they were going head-to-head. After 45 minutes, the chefs presented their dishes to the judges. The verdict? An unprecedented tie.

It was decided to hold a second, 10-minute sudden death round. It was then when the scrappy underdog that is Tim McGrath found success and took victory.

That was a year and a half ago. Now Chef McGrath has put himself into the rotation at The Revolving Door, serving as their guest chef through May 1. As much as Chef has proven that he can create a dish under the most extreme of circumstances, both in terms of time and ingredients, he got to take his time and create an amazing menu for his time at The Revolving Door.

We had the opportunity to stop by the restaurant on Sunday. From McGrath’s menu, we selected the pork tenderloin…or, rather…

The pork was amazing, naturally, but we’ve never been so enthusiastic to eat our vegetables.

Check out the rest of the menu here. We’re intrigued by the Narragansett Bay Ceviche and the Torn Short Rib & Potatoe Gnocci, so those are on the agenda for our next visit. Hopefully we’ll see you there.
