Cocktail Wars Returns To Newport For A Fourth Season

By  |  0 Comments

Seven weeks of cocktail competitions test the local bartending talent.

Cocktail Wars Newport kicked of its latest season on Sunday night, which Cocktail Wars vets might recognize as a different night than the traditional Wednesday night we’ve seen in the past. The location remains the same at the Gas Lamp Grille at 206 Thames Street.

Once again, John “Burns” Begin returns as the event host/organizer/carnival barker/sometimes judge, so expect to hear a lot of “Cheers” and “Welcome to the neighborhood”s in the coming weeks.

Week One saw four local favorites duke it out using an interesting surprise ingredient, Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates Stout Edition. The Irish whiskey is aged in the wooden casks used to barrel-age Irish microbrew Franciscan Well’s stout. The irony is that Franciscan Well gets their barrels from Jameson in the first place…so no one’s venturing too far from home in this venture.

The Bartenders

Doug Randall Jr.

Michelle Carson

Gustavo Guerra

Jonathan bartends at the White Horse Tavern and recently won the Belvedere Bloody Mary contest held down at @The Deck.

Coming Up!

We’ve got 6 more weeks of competition! Three more preliminary rounds mean another 12 bartenders get a shot. The top two of each round will then go into two weeks of semi-finals and it all comes to a grand finale in the last week where the top four mixologists duke it out to see who’s the top dog.

See you next Sunday at 10pm for the next edition of Cocktail Wars Newport!
