End Of October Means Bad News For Rhode Island Drinkers

Also, November 1 means good news for drivers in Newport.

It seems like it was just yesterday that we were announcing the virtues of June 1 for Rhode Island booze-hounds (and folks who work late into the evening). June 1 is when Rhode Island liquor stores are allowed to be open until 11 pm Monday through Saturday.

Shorter Liquor Store Hours

Unfortunately, in order to be open an extra hour, there has to be a point when you close an hour earlier, so it’s very much like Daylight Savings, which, coincidentally, is also taking place this weekend.

So as of November 1st, Rhode Island liquor stores have to close at 10pm (though this year, November 1st is on a Sunday, so they’ll close at 6pm…and starting November 2nd they close at 10.)

Parking Rules

The good news for drivers in Newport is that November 1st also means that the parking meters and resident parking is now done for the season. If you enjoy parking tickets, have no fear, they’ll all come back for May 1. In the meantime, parking is a bit more of a free-for-all, but it’s doubtful it’ll be that crazy, because there’s a whole lot less cars.

Daylight Savings

Saturday night (technically Sunday morning) at 2am, clocks go back an hour. Your phones and computers should make the switch automatically, so just follow their lead when you adjust the clocks on your microwave, stove, car, etc.

So go to bed, wake up whenever your phone’s alarm makes you, enjoy your extra hour of sleep, and park a car from wherever wherever. Just don’t be surprised when the sun sets at 4:30pm.
