Gurney’s Newport Cocktail Featured In Marie Claire

Corey Hayes’ Blazing Saddles cocktail is heating up Newport’s newest resort.

The country’s lifestyle magazines and newspapers are all over Gurney’s Newport right now, making the spicy drink just featured in Marie Claire an extra “hot commodity”. The cocktail, named Blazing Saddles by its creator, Gurney’s beverage manager and head mixologist Corey Hayes, was part of a post titled 13 Cocktails That Will Teleport You Straight to an Island.



We got to sample this cocktail last weekend when we stopped by Gurney’s for the opening of the brand new Regent Cocktail Club & Fire Pit and have to say that while it’s not one that goes down super easy, the heat isn’t overwhelming. That said, this drink is certainly a contrast to the Watermelon Sunset featured in USA Today last week.

Anyhow, here it is…

The Blazing Saddles

Gurney's Newport Blazing Saddles Cocktail
Ingredients:
2 oz. Thai chile infused Avion silver (Split open 3 red Thai chiles and let sit in Avion for 30 minutes. Shake every 5 minutes and strain all chiles and seeds)

1 oz. Passion fruit syrup (1:1 fruit puree and sugar mixture)

½ oz. Suze

Juice of half a lime

Directions:

Shake all ingredients over ice into coupe glass and garnish with a lime wheel.
