Kick Off Memorial Day Weekend With This Outdoor Concert

Head down Lower Thames Friday night for the Honey Island Swamp Band!

From the legendary, world renowned Folk, and Jazz Fests our city hosts, to the gone but always missed Sunset Concert Series, even on down to some doofy cover band playing while you’re trying to enjoy the view down at the Landing, nothing says summer in Newport more than outdoor concerts.

So what if I told you that this Friday, May 27th, Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial start of summer, there was a FREE outdoor concert. You would be pretty psyched right? Well buttercup, I’m not here to build you up just to let you down.

Now, stay with me here. I’m not sure if you heard, but Stoneacre Pantry and Lorusso’s Cafe have formed a partnership. Which is definitely something to celebrate, and they want to celebrate it with YOU!

That’s right, Friday night from 7-11pm cruise on down to Wellington Square on 580 Thames St, and you’ll be treated to a summer kickoff party featuring a performance by Honey Island Swamp Band. They can best be described as “a swampy mix of blues, soul, country, R&B, and the rhythms of their home town, New Orleans” .

They can be even better described, by listening below…

The concert is on them, but feel free to donate towards the cost of the band, show them you want something like this to happen more often!

The Cafe at Lorusso’s will be open, with to go items available, but the restaurant side will be closed that night, but will be opening Saturday for dinner.

I don’t know about you, but this sounds like an AMAZING way to way to kick off the summer to me. I’m honestly upset I have to work, because I want to go! But this is why I implore you to go check it out. I’m sure if it goes well, we can come to expect more like this from these guys, and that’s a good thing.

Dennis Hofer was born in Newport Hospital. If you don’t know him, someone you know does. He’s a master of loading Pez Dispensers, self proclaimed connoisseur of chicken parm sandwiches, and always good for a joke or six. If you see him drinking a hefeweizen, please tell him to just go home. High fives for reading this far.
