As if Newport First Responders didn’t have enough to worry about.

Three days into the Aquidneck Island natural gas stoppage, Newport Police got another crisis thrown on their plate when they had to respond to a reported stabbing at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue.

A bit after 11pm Wednesday night, approximately eight police vehicles were seen tearing out of the Newport police station on Broadway. They headed south at high speed, took a shortcut up the wrong way of Spring Street and then up Bull.

A short time later, police were seen at the scene of Stop & Shop. They were seen entering and leaving the grocery store, indicating that alleged crime likely took place inside. The store closes at 10pm and there weren’t many civilian vehicles present, though a cleaning company van was parked next the the entrance.
