Newport’s Best Bartender Is OUTTA HERE!!!

You’ve one week left to enjoy his craft cocktails in the City-by-the-Sea.

Newport’s pool of talented mixologists keeps growing, but we’ve always been relatively comfortable in naming the best in town. Mr. Jason Kindness always edged out the heavy competition by not just making great cocktails, but effectively training and instructing others to follow in his footsteps.

Jason Kindness pulling out all the stops to win the first Cocktail Wars tournament.

Jason has competed in cocktail competitions both locally and nationally. Locally, he was the first champion of Cocktail Wars Newport. His protege, Ryan Kennedy was the runner-up in that series. Then, in the third season of the competition held this past spring, another of Jason’s apprentices, Jack Hunger, came out as champ.

At the Revolving Door, Jason held a Mixology 101 class bi-weekly where bartending novices got an afternoon’s instruction on how to make drinks the Kindness way.

On Saturday afternoon, Jason announced on Facebook that he was stepping down as beverage director at The Revolving Door Restaurant to become the owner of Kai Bar in East Greenwich.

Looking back, we’ve enjoyed Jason for his great talent at mixing drinks, as well as those odd expressions he makes. For example, curiosity/disgust:

Or his constant boredom whenever Jack Hunger does a double shake:

Mr. Kindness, Newport is in your debt for they way you’ve helped the city push its beverage envelope and we wish you godspeed in your future endeavors.

The Best Of The Best

So with Jason leaving, who’s going to slide into the top spot? Here are our “off-the-top-of-our-head” best contenders…

Corey Hayes
-Fluke

Adrianne Nicole
-Vanderbilt Grace

Tyler Bernadyn
– Midtown Oyster Bar, Caleb & Broad

Jeff Arnold
-Forty 1º North

There are more. There are just our “I’ll put it in your hands” Bartender’s Choice mixologists. There are also a number who aren’t currently employed in a manner where they can mix you a specialized cocktail on demand. We’ll have to do some more research and get back to you.
