This Disney Princess Came Out 25 Years Ago Today

The movie, based on a Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, changed the original tragic ending.

Going on to gross over $200 million and sparking Disney’s animation renaissance, the tale of a rebellious daughter out to get herself a prince with the help of some loveable sidekicks is almost cliche at this point. It’s hard to remember a time when Disney animation didn’t dominate every child’s video collection, but before The Little Mermaid came out, things were very different at the studio.

So here’s to wishing Ariel, Flounder, Triton and even Ursula a happy 25th Anniversary.
