#UpForWhatever Gets Awkward

Bud Light sets the blogosphere on fire.

Budweiser has been running its “#UpForWhatever” marketing campaign ever since Super Bowl 45 (that’s the one before the one the Patriots just won). It’s premised on the idea that a person who drinks Bud Light is up for a little excitement in their evening. They’re people who will jump head first into the night without looking.

It kind of makes sense. After all, Bud Light contains alcohol, which has been documented, on occasion, to remove people’s inhibitions and leave them “up for whatever”.

For the most part, it’s all about having a little fun outside of one’s comfort zone…but there can be risks associated with getting people to do things they wouldn’t normally want to do.

Case in point? A photograph of a bottle of Bud Light with the line “The perfect beer for removing “No” from your vocabulary for the night.”



Is that a bad thing? Well, it kind of depends on what kind of context you put it in. For example, if you’re trying to get  40-year old homebody out of their shell?

Not that big of a deal. Kind of pathetic…but not a big deal.

Of course, if you’re the unhappy ladies over a Jezebel, you read that and do your best to make it a whole lot creepier. We’re guessing their imaginations pulled up an image more like this…

Will Bud apologize for offending the sensibilities of people whose job it is to be offended? Well, a quick look at their Twitter feed reveals…they haven’t so far.
