Air Force Thunderbirds memorialize Marine Captain Jeff Kuss as only they can.

Last week, shocking accidents occurred within hours of each other for both of the US military’s precision aerobatics teams, the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels. While the Air Force pilot was able to safely eject from his F-16, the Marine pilot was lost with his F/A-18C Hornet.

Earlier this week, it was announced that, in the wake of the two accidents, the Thunderbirds were cancelling their appearance at this weekend’s Rhode Island Air National Guard Open House & Air Show. A small contingent of the Thunderbirds attended the memorial service for Captain Kuss. In addition, the Thunderbirds announced on Facebook that they are honoring Captain Kuss by flying his name in the front wheel well of the team’s Lead Solo aircraft.
