Jalil Muhammad Nelson Gives Murder A Try; Sucks At It

18 year-old Newport man arrested for four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm from a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury.

In a Friday morning we first reported on yesterday, Jalil Muhammad Nelson, 18, of 17 Shimoda Way, took it upon himself a violate a no-contact order. First, he contacted the 22 year-old victim with his car and drove away in a “hit and run”, then he returned to the scene to perform a drive-by shooting, hitting fences and a Newport Heights residence, but completely missing his target, possibly in an homage to Falling Down.

It appears this case is related to a prior incident last month, where Nelson was charged with misdemeanor domestic disorderly conduct and given a no-contact order. He apparently took this as a challenge and, determined to get a full scholarship to Cranston, escalated his game.

It turns out that homicide isn’t Nelson’s strong suit but leaving witnesses is. After being hit with Nelson’s car and missed with Nelson’s gun, the victim was able to contact police and identify his assailant. With assistance from Middletown police, the would-be assassin was pulled over within minutes, a block away in Coddington Point at 231 Maple Ave.

He will be arraigned at a later date.
