Newport’s Most Dapper Motorcycle Rally Is This Sunday

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is raising money for men’s health.

When it comes to motorcycle rallies, there are generally two looks that most riders go for: motocross or “biker”. Now a group of motorcyclists are bucking that trend and taking their riding attire into a more formal direction and raising money for charity while they’re at it.

At 4pm on Sunday, September 30th, a group of Newporters are going to join 12,000 bikers in 650 cities around the world on The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. This event originated in Australia in 2012 when a gentleman named Mark Hawwa was inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper on a classic motorcycle, wearing his finest suit. It is meant as a departure from the rougher image that most people have about motorcycles and those who ride them.

Locally, the event is being sponsored by Callous Moto, Narragansett Beer, and Ello Pretty Salon.

If you’re interested in joining the rally or making a donation, check out The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride website. (And yes, gentle lady riders are more than welcome to take part, too.) You can also find event news and updates at the local ride’s Facebook event page.

For those of you non-riders who would like to join in the fun, there will be an after-party at the Fastnet Pub at 7pm.
