Margaritas, mezcal and cervezas: Where to get Mexican beverages and cuisine in the City-By-The-Sea.

Cinco de Mayo is to Mexico what St. Patrick’s Day is to Ireland, a small holiday that was blown way out of proportion by some people in America and now everything’s grown out of hand, but it doesn’t matter, because it’s fun, tasty and profitable for all involved.

Given Newport’s reputation for cuisine and libations, we naturally have a few spots where you want to celebrate the best of Mexican culinary contributions.

1. Diego’s

Since opening in 2009, Diego’s has been a Bowen’s Wharf hotspot, providing downtown Newport with great Mexican food and drink. If you poke around Newport virtually on Instagram, the pics of Diego margaritas in the sun on their patio are an inevitability every summer, as are pics of Polaroids pinned to the bar.
