Rhode Island Dept. of Health: Tinder Is Giving Everyone STDs

Please stop using your smartphone to spread syphilis.

Rhode Island is in the national (and international) news again…for something we’re pretty sure everyone would prefer to keep on the DL. Here we are in Time:

Rhode Island is currently experiencing what health experts are calling an “epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases” — and hookup apps may be partially to blame, officials said.

From 2013 to 2014, infections of syphilis increased 79%, gonorrhea cases went up 30% and new HIV cases increased by about 33%, according to data released by the Rhode Island department of health.

This is really going to affect our Slutty State ranking.

So the data as presented doesn’t make it clear if this being spread throughout our state’s population like a typical epidemic…or if there’s one Patient Zero with an amazing Tinder game and an aversion to latex who’s doing all this work single-handedly.

It looks like everyone needs a little sex ed refresher…

So wrap it up. It’s getting disgusting out there and you’re embarrassing us on the world stage. Swipe left once in a while.
