Rogue Island Comedy Festival 2018

The Rogue Island Comedy Festival returns!

Newport is a great entertainment destination. We’ve got lots of musicians and artists and documentaries and bartenders and all that jazz. One form of entertainment we’re a little lacking in, however, is stand-up comedy. All that changes, however, Columbus Day Weekend. That’s when Doug Key and his elite crew of organizers round up the best comics they know and drag them down to the City-By-The-Sea to be raw, offensive, button-pushing…and most importantly FUNNY!!!

We’re looking at some serious comedic talent. Comics like Mark Normand…

Sam Jay…

…and someone who apparently goes by the name “More”.

That’s the number of comedy shows happening from Thursday, October 4th through Monday, October 8. This may come as a disappointment to some, but there’s actually no way that you can see them all. That’s because this festival is taking over venues all over Newport and there will be quite a few running concurrently. (If you don’t know what concurrently means, feel free to tweet Doug Key and ask him.)

Schedule of Shows

As much fun as it would be to republish the entire show schedule from the Rogue Island Comedy website, we’re going to keep it simple (and be lazy), and just link it here. It’s a very nice website that I’m sure Katie Latimer spent a lot of time working on…and it allows you to buy your tickets online, which is great if you want to make sure that you get tickets to a specific show before it sells out.

Helpful Hints

GUYS WE F@#KED: THE EXPERIENCE!So the sort of “big event” of the festival is this Guys We [email protected]#ked: The Experience. For those of you who don’t know Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson host anti-slut-shaming podcast that has over a half-million subscribers. At this show, the audience will get a more interactive version of that show with games, audience participation, rants, stories, stand-up comedy and never before seen video! Get your tickets today.

We highly recommend that everyone come into Newport on Saturday-day for the Broadway Street Fair…which has been absolutely amazing the last couple years and should be even better this year. Then catch one of two Rogue Island shows starting at 6pm, one conveniently located at the Firehouse Theater (and BYOB) and the other a 5 minute walk away at the Top of Pelham. After the first show, you can dash over to catch another show at 8pm at the King’s Lens…or perhaps grab a bite to eat before hitting the 9pm show at Gurneys or the 10pm back at Firehouse. Just have your Uber apps at the ready because these venues are all over town.

This is a tip for all you industry folks who might be off work Monday night. The festival headliner will be performing two shows at the Top of the Pelham (aka Studio 3). That’s right…you can catch Mark Normand headlining two shows, one at 7pm and the second at 9pm. If you come to the 9pm show, you’ll also be able to catch Maya Manion, Newport’s hardest working comedienne.

(We didn’t skip over Friday and Sunday nights because they aren’t any good…just that we didn’t have anything to add.)
