Two Great Ways To Support A Young Local’s Battle With Cancer

The Newport community is coming together for Meg McCoy in her fight against breast cancer. Here’s what you can do to help.

On August 22, 2015 Meg McCoy celebrated her 30th birthday. A month later she discovered a lump on her right breast. By the end of September, she was diagnosed with triple negative, BRCA1 positive (a family genetic flaw) and high grade 3 of 3 breast cancer. Meg underwent surgery but she’s not out of the woods yet. She’s still facing another round of chemotherapy.meg chemotherapy

While Meg does have health insurance, which covers most of the costs of her treatments, bills are starting to pile up. To make matters a bit more challenging, her doctor won’t let her return to work as a nurse at the Grand Islander in Middletown until at least April, when her immune system will have had a chance to recover.

All this means that there’s a financial hole that Meg McCoy’s friends have set out to fill. If you’d like to help, you have two different options. The first is a GoFundMe account set up in her name

The second is one hell of a party on Sunday, January 3rd.
