This Weekend: Corvette Vs Porsche 911 On The Streets On Newport

The Benefit

As much of a ribbing we’ve given these cars, it is important that we recognize the good their owners are doing for the community this weekend.

The Porsche 911 event organized by Steven Ramponi is donating $4,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Newport. Not bad for a bunch of boys playing with their toys.

A quick glance at the Marble and Glass Corvette Weekend website didn’t reveal a specific charity affiliated with their event, but from our time working Newport parking lots, we know Corvette owners are some of the most generous tippers on the road. After all, they know what it’s like to work for a living.

On Newport Streets

So, there’s going to be a ridiculous amount of horsepower on Newport streets this weekend. That said, the chances that you’re going to see any street racing is…miniscule. As we’ve already explained, these cars aren’t driven by young punks anymore. They’re driven by established members of society who have families and businesses (and grey and white hair). Also this is Newport. On a weekend. Between May 1 and September 30. The only speed test will be 0-10-0.
